NT scan
Uses
- What It Is: An early pregnancy ultrasound measuring the nuchal translucency (fluid-filled space) at the back of the fetus's neck.
- Timing: Performed between 11 and 14 weeks of pregnancy.
- Purpose: Assesses the risk of chromosomal abnormalities, such as Down syndrome.
- Procedure: Uses a transabdominal ultrasound to capture images and measure the thickness of the nuchal translucency.
- Additional Testing: Often combined with maternal blood tests for a comprehensive risk assessment.
- Safety: Non-invasive and safe for both mother and fetus.
- Results: An increased measurement suggests higher risk, but further diagnostic tests may be needed for confirmation.
